Q What is an insurance company, and what do they do?
An insurance company is a company that sells insurance. Most are corporations in business to make a profit just like any other business. They sell a product—insurance. It sells its insurance directly or through its agents or both. It determines what insurance it wants to sell, and the wording of its policies. It evaluates the risk it is willing to take by providing such insurance and the cost it wants to charge to its customers for the insurance. Examples of companies that sell automobile insurance in southeastern Connecticut are Geico, USAA, Allstate, State Farm, Progressive, and Infinity. There are many others.
