Car insurance is regulated by the state. Each policy must contain certain things. In Connecticut, all car insurance policies for Connecticut drivers must contain certain things in the policy. For example, as of this writing, all policies must contain liability coverage of at least $20,000.00. This means that if you are injured due to someone else’s careless driving then you have a claim against that careless person, and that careless person’s liability coverage is available to pay your claim up to $20,000.00. In addition to liability coverage, car insurance policies must also contain underinsured/uninsured motorist coverage of double the amount of liability insurance. For example, a 50/100 policy is a policy that provides $50,000 in liability coverage and $100,000 in underinsured/uninsured motorist coverage. Additional parts of car insurance policy include optional medical payments coverage, and collision coverage.
