One of the seven deadly sins is your failure to report the cause of all of your injuries to your doctor in the first visit with that doctor.  Although, it might be clear that you have an injury of some kind, there are many cases in which the main defense is whether that car crash caused the particular injury or whether the injury was a pre-existing injury.  Therefore, if you go to your doctor for back pain, shortly after a car crash you should make it very clear that you believe the cause of the back pain was your recent car crash.  Unless you make that clear, your doctor might assume that you came to his office because of your long standing chronic pain, and he might even make a note of that in the records.
