Your should know what your rights are when you are handling your our claim for your Groton, Connecticut car accident case.  There are several common misconceptions about dealing with an insurance adjuster.  The insurance adjuster will not educate you about your rights.  You have to educate yourself.  Here are seven sins committed by an adjuster to take advantage of the fact that you don't know your rights when you are trying to handle your own claim.

1.The adjuster tells you that you are required to speak with them.
Don’t believe them, if they tell you that you are required to speak with them, or to give them a statement about what happened.  It is all your choice.
2.  The adjuster tells you that you are required to sign their forms.
You are not required to sign any forms.
3.  The adjuster tells you that you are required to sign a medical release.
You are not required to sign a medical release form.  You are not even required to give the insurance company your medical records.  If you chose to share your medical records, you certainly don’t have to give the adjuster a medical release form, and you can simply get the medical records from your doctor yourself and then you can provide the records to the adjuster.
4.  The adjuster tells you that you are required to sign an employment record release.
You are not required to sign an employment records release.
5.  The adjuster tells you that you are required to sign an IRS Form 4506.
You are not required to sign a Form 4506 to allow them to get tax returns even if you are making a lost wage claim.
6.  The adjuster tells you that you are required to give a recorded statement.
The adjuster will want you to sign a statement.  Many times, it will be a recorded statement.  You have the option to refuse to give a statement altogether, or to give a prepared written statement that you took time to prepare.  What you do depends on your comfort level.
7.  The adjuster tells you that you are required to use their preferred car repair facility.
You have the right to have your car repaired at the facility of your choice.  Don’t let the adjuster tell you that you are required to go to their preferred repair shop.
